Police recovered six NATO vehicles, stolen by the transporters who were responsible for transporting them from Afghanistan to Karachi here on Tuesday. SHO Hatri police station Muneer Abbassi told APP that they raided a location near Taj petrol pump on a tip-off and recovered four armoured personnel carriers and two trucks of the NATO forces.
According to daily The News, police arrested two suspects, Zameer Khan and Zar Khan, from the spot while another three, Akhtar Hussain, Mairaj Khan and Noor Akbar, were picked up later.The suspects include two drivers, two cleaners and a mechanic, he added.
“The suspects during the initial investigation informed that they were carrying the vehicles from Afghanistan to NATO’s workshop in Karachi for repairs,” said SP Wasee Hyder, adding that the vehicles were old and needed repair.
However, he said further investigation was underway.According to the SHO, the suspects had detached windshields, air conditioning system, motors and some other parts from the vehicles apparently with the intention of stealing.He said the police will register an FIR against the suspects under the relevant laws.
