Decline Indus water release to Sindh, dams and reservoirs for Punjab being filled

The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has started filling the Tarbella and Mangal dams along with filling the Chashma resorvoirs in Punjab against the frequent demands by Sindh for releasing its water share for the crop season according to Water Accord of 1991 between federating provinces of Pakistan. It was reported yesterday that water level further went down 642.9 feet at Guddu Barrage in Sindh creating an alarming situation for the agriculture, ecology and habitat in the province. The lower riperian Sindh has sent at least 90 letters, alerts and requests to IRSA durring last three months for releasing its water share from Indus due to acute water shortage in Sindh.
