The Brave son of Sindh, although a leader of religious party but with a touch of Sindhi tolerance, Dr. Khalid Mehmood Soomro of Jami'at-e-Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) was gunned down yesterday by the unknown assailants who drove to his place of stay in a white car, and opened fires on him. Soomro's role in defending and protecting the rights of Sindh is unforgettable. In his last speech he said that he would prefer to accept martyrdom but not allow anyone to exploit the resources of Sindh. Almost whole of Sindh was closed down in protest and mourn. All Sindhi nationalist parties, Pakistan People Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP) and Mutahida Qomi Movement (MQM) condemned his murder. Soomro played a major role against Kalabagh Dam, conspiracies of division of Sindh and other issues. Maulana Fazaul Rehman said Pakistani state was responsible for his murder.
